While Mika is trying to mine ontologies out of folksonomies, Paul Haymann has an algorithm to extract hierarchies.
That’s an interesting article. Although not directly related to tagging, Gerhard Buurman has edited a collection of interesting articles on visual design hierarchies which is pretty cool and interesting, entitled: “Total Interaction”
